In this Gallery we present specimens from a number of Spanish localities. These include some classic sites as the Almadén district for cinnabar, Zaragoza for its gypsum crystals, La Rioja for pyrite and others in page 1 while page 2 is represented by a group of specimens from the fluorite mines in Asturias as well as others from a number of small localities in Northern and Eastern Spain.

WSPA-08/3 - Sphalerite

Las Mánforas Mine, Áliva, Picos de Europa (Cantabria, Spain)

Lustrous translucent honey-colored crystalline mass of sphalerite in a matrix of fine-grained grey to white dolomite-rich carbonate rock. Undamaged.

4.7x4.4x1.5 - 24 €

WSPA-08/4- Sphalerite

Las Mánforas Mine, Áliva, Picos de Europa (Cantabria, Spain)

Matrixless mass of translucent orange crystalline sphalerite with a few small pyrite grains associated. Minor cleaving at bottom, otherwise undamaged.

4x3.1x3 - 32 €

WSPA-08/5 - Sphalerite and calcite

Las Mánforas Mine, Áliva, Picos de Europa (Cantabria, Spain)

Large partial crystal of lustrous gemmy translucent honey-colored sphalerite with a 3.3x2.3 cm. crystal of grey calcite attached on one side. It shows real faces in parallel growth, something quite unusual at this classic locality. Cleaved at bottom which gives a perfect base for display.

6.4x4.8x4.2 - 75 €

WSPA-05/4 - Calcite and fluorite

Moscona Mine, Solís, Oviedo Province (Asturias, Spain)

Cluster of lustrous translucent modified rhombs of calcite to about 4 cm. across with associated amber cubic fluorite crystals to 0.8 cm. on edge. There are tiny brassy pyrite on some fluorite faces. Fluorite is fluorescent. Very minor damage at a couple of edges of the specimen not seen when displayed, otherwise undamaged.

9x6.5x4 - 50 €

WSPA-05/7 - Barite and calcite

Moscona Mine, Solís, Oviedo Province (Asturias, Spain)

A large central mound of matrix visible at bottom (not seen in the photos) coated by a layer of amber cubic crystals of fluorite to almost 2 cm. on edge. This layer is almost completely covered by large translucent white lustrous scalenohedra of calcite the largest of which are at back of the specimen. The calcite crystals are coated by numerous bladed white to blue crystals of barite to about 2 cm. across (most are smaller). The fluorite crystals are only seen at front of the specimen and present a scattering of tiny red crystals of sphalerite. There is some damage to the calcite crystals mainly in those at back and in a few barite crystals. However the general shape is quite well overall for a sample of this size and so rich in barite (not as common as fluorite or calcite at this locality) and this is indeed a great cabinet combo specimen from this classic Spanish locality.

14x10x7 - Sold

WSPA-S/N-7 - Fluorite and calcite

Jaimina Mine, Caravia Baja, Oviedo Province (Asturias, Spain)

Group of grey translucent cubic crystals of fluorite to 2.4 cm. on edge, some with a castellated appearance and interesting growth features on the faces. In several places there are some white scalenohedral calcite crystals to about 1 cm. The fluorite crystals exhibit numerous small inclusions of red cinnabar and golden chalcopyrite. Just a very few tiny nicks in some corners quite difficult to see, otherwise undamaged.

7x6x3.5 - 25 €

WSPA-2001-5 - Dolomite and calcite

Respina Mine, Puebla de Lillo, León Province (Castilla y León, Spain)

Mass of white dolomite with a few saddle-shape crystals to about 2 cm. on top. The top side and the dolomite crystals are coated by tiny yellowish calcite crystals. Some damage as seen in the pictures but the crystals are quite well.

7x5.5x4 - Sold

WSPA-2001-7 - Dolomite and calcite

Respina Mine, Puebla de Lillo, León Province (Castilla y León, Spain)

A nearly floater matrixless cluster of saddle-shape dolomite crystals to about 1.5 cm. partly coated by tiny yellowish calcite crystals. Just a tiny nick as seen at far right on the right picture.

3x1.7x1.5 - 9 €

WSPA-2001-9 - Dolomite and calcite

Respina Mine, Puebla de Lillo, León Province (Castilla y León, Spain)

A floater matrixless cluster of saddle-shape white crystals of dolomite with pearly luster to about 1.5 cm. The bottom is partly coated by tiny yellowish calcite crystals. Just a few small cleaved areas at the edges, otherwise undamaged and quite nice.

4x2.8x1.8 - 10 €

WSPA-2001-10 - Dolomite and quartz

Respina Mine, Puebla de Lillo, León Province (Castilla y León, Spain)

A thin plate made of 3-mm. rhombic crystals of light pink dolomite and small lustrous colorless quartz crystals with a large dolomite twin on a side. The largest face as seen in the second picture is 2.7x2 cm. across. Undamaged and quite interesting.

3.8x3.6x2.5 - 12 €

WSPA-05/57 - Gypsum

Agost, Alicante Province (Valencia, Spain)

A colorless transparent terminated 10x2.5x1.8-cm. gypsum crystal with some matrix at bottom. From an uncommon locality recently closed to collecting. Just a tiny nick on one edge, otherwise undamaged.

11.3x3.3x2.3 - 50 €
