In this Gallery we present specimens from a number of Spanish localities. These include some classic sites as the Almadén district for cinnabar, Zaragoza for its gypsum crystals, La Rioja for pyrite and others in page 1 while page 2 is represented by a group of specimens from the fluorite mines in Asturias as well as others from a number of small localities in Northern and Eastern Spain.

Ambasaguas, Logroño Province (La Rioja, Spain)

Clusters and single crystals of lustrous golden striated cubopyritohedral pyrite to 6 mm. in a matrix of sandstone. Just a couple of crystals with small contact areas, the main cluster is undamaged. As can be seen some crystals are lacking.

Fuentes de Ebro, Zaragoza Province (Aragón, Spain)

A colorless transparent bladed 2.5-cm. long crystal of gypsum rests on a matrix of white alabaster coated by lenticular crystals of gypsum to about 1 cm. across. Matrix has been sawn at bottom and back to prevent shock damage. A tiny white nick on one side of the main crystal and minor cleaving around the edges of the specimen. Fluorescent.

Mass of opal with mainly yellowish to orange shades from a local place rarely seen in the market. It shows a central band with an interesting breccia-like structure.

Quartzite matrix with a scattering of small green crystals of torbenite (probably dehydrated to meta-torbernite) to about 2 mm. across.

Valdemascaño Mine, Sobradillo, Salamanca Province (Castilla y León, Spain)

Quartzite matrix with a scattering of small green crystals of torbenite (probably dehydrated to meta-torbernite) to less than 1 mm. across. There is a fissure coated by tiny quartz crystals with a group of emerald-green torbernite crystals to 2 mm. across (difficult to picture in a good angle).

Las Cuevas Mine, Almadén, Ciudad Real Province (Castilla-La Mancha, Spain)

A metavolcanic piece of matrix infilled with red cinnabar ore. There are some vuggy areas where lustrous translucent dark red crystals of cinnabar to 4 mm. and small droplets of native mercury occur. The top crystal on the right picture grew against the matrix and is recrystallized, the bottom crystal is undamaged.

Huércal-Overa, Almería Province (Andalucía, Spain)

Coatings of pink to deep magenta microcrystals and small rosettes of erythrite covering the matrix. There are some areas with well developed lustrous transparent crystals to 2 mm. From the best locality in Spain for erythrite. Collected in the 70's.
